Am I a Candidate for Clear Aligners?
Clear aligners can be a comfortable and discreet way to improve tooth alignment for selected patients. At Country Club Dental, we evaluate your teeth, bite, gums, goals, and overall dental health before recommending CandidPro clear aligner treatment.
Clear Aligners Are Not One-Size-Fits-All
Many patients are interested in clear aligners because they want a straighter smile without traditional brackets and wires. Clear aligners may be an option for mild to moderate spacing, crowding, or alignment concerns.
However, not every case is appropriate for aligners. Some bite problems, severe crowding, jaw relationship concerns, or active dental disease may require a different approach or additional treatment before aligners are considered.
Clear aligner treatment recommendations depend on an exam, bite evaluation, and dental health review. Individual treatment needs vary.
Clear Aligners May Help With These Concerns
During a consultation, we look at the type of tooth movement needed and whether aligners can safely and predictably help.
Mild Crowding
Some patients with mild crowding may be candidates if there is enough space and the bite can be managed safely.
Small Spaces
Clear aligners may help close selected spaces between teeth, depending on the cause and overall bite relationship.
Minor Relapse
Patients whose teeth shifted after previous orthodontic treatment may be candidates for clear aligner correction.
Smile Alignment
Aligners may improve the appearance of rotated, tipped, or slightly uneven teeth in selected cases.
Bite Evaluation
We evaluate how your teeth come together because tooth alignment and bite function need to be considered together.
Healthy Foundation
Gums, bone support, cavities, worn teeth, and existing dental work may all affect whether aligner treatment is appropriate.
Some Cases Need a Different Plan
Clear aligners can be helpful, but they have limitations. If a case requires complex tooth movement, significant bite correction, or treatment beyond what aligners can safely accomplish, another option may be recommended.
We also need to address active dental problems first. Cavities, gum disease, infection, unstable dental work, or poor oral hygiene can affect the timing and safety of clear aligner treatment.
- Severe crowding or spacing may require other options.
- Some bite problems may need specialist evaluation.
- Active gum disease should be treated before aligners.
- Cavities or unstable dental work may need attention first.
- Aligners require consistent wear and patient cooperation.
What Happens at a Clear Aligner Consultation?
The consultation helps us understand your goals and determine whether clear aligners are a realistic option.
Discuss Goals
We ask what you want to improve, what bothers you about your smile, and what you hope treatment can accomplish.
Evaluate Teeth
We evaluate alignment, spacing, crowding, gum health, existing dental work, and overall dental condition.
Review Bite
We look at how your teeth fit together because bite function matters before moving teeth.
Explain Options
We explain whether CandidPro clear aligners may be appropriate or whether another option should be considered.
Treatment Planning Comes Before Treatment
We do not recommend clear aligners simply because a patient wants straighter teeth. We first need to make sure the teeth, gums, bite, and treatment goals line up with a safe and realistic plan.
Clear Aligners Require Consistency
Clear aligner treatment works best when patients wear the aligners as instructed, keep them clean, attend follow-up visits, and maintain excellent oral hygiene.
Patients also need to understand that retainers are usually needed after treatment to help maintain the result. Teeth can shift again if retention is not maintained.
- Wear aligners as instructed.
- Remove aligners for eating and drinking anything besides water.
- Brush and floss consistently.
- Keep follow-up visits.
- Use retainers after treatment as recommended.
